the REASON for the season!!!...

I am so excited for Christmas!! This Christmas season has been different than any other for us since we are moving just before Christmas, we have been so consumed with that. Kevin and I had the opportunity to go Salt Lake, just the two of us last night for a work party. We arrived early, so we enjoyed walking around Temple Square, the lights are always amazing!!! We were able to walk up to see the Christus, and listen to the missionaries bare their testimonies of the truthfulness of the gospel, and about the life of our Savior Jesus Christ. We then stayed to watch the movie 'The Nativity' that the church has produced. I am so very thankful for this opportunity because as I mentioned we have been very busy , and my mind has been on other things, and I hadn't taken the time to think about and remember what this Christmas season is all about!!! I am so thankful to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and I am even more thankful for the birth and LIFE of the Savior, and his perfect example!!
A friend shared this with me, and I loved it so much I thought I would pass it on... The college of Fine Arts at Brigham Young University put together this short video and song called Joy to Everyone. I LOVE music, especially if it inspires me to be a better person, so here you go... you can view it HERE!!!! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

10 MONTHS!!!

Wow, I really cannot believe that Carrie has been with us for almost a year!! On November 30 our little girl was 10 months. I know I am way behind, she is almost 11 months now, but I still wanted to look back and highlight my sweet girl!!

*Carrie LOVES to clap, and does it all the time... if you say "YAY!!" she will clap...
*she loves music, and whenever there is music she starts to dance, if she is standing she kindof 'bounces' bending her knees and she flails her arms...
*she loves to play with anything that makes NOISE...
*can crawl FAST, and follows me around the house...
*is able to stand on her own...
*sometimes she CRACKS HERSELF UP and will laugh
*loves peek-a-boo

the BEST time of the year!!!....

With the Christmas and the holidays come lots of parties! We had our annual Carpenter/Ryan Christmas party on Saturday, and as always we had a blast!! I could not believe how much Andrew enjoyed it... he loved playing with all of the kids, and most of all the GAMES!! He couldn't hold still, but he kept telling anyone who would listen, "I want to play games!!" We did play a few group games, and there was a pinata for the kids. The company was absolutely delightful, we love to spend time with the Ryan clan, we just don't get to see them enough!! Thanks Aunt Nancy (now that I know you are a devoted follower of this blog...) for a great party!

As is also tradition we had a visitor stop by... SANTA!! I have been amazed the last two years how Andrew reacts to Santa. He can be pretty shy, but for some reason he is not afraid of Santa. As soon as Santa came in and sat down, Andrew was there sitting right in front of him on the floor watching his every move. He waited patiently as Santa gave presents to other kids, and when it was his turn he hopped right up on his lap.Christmas is so much fun when you have little ones, it makes me feel like a kid again I get so excited for everything!!

the GOOD and the BAD...

I really love this time of year, you can't help but feel happy. I also love it because it helps me to look at the things I am grateful for... as I thought about what I am grateful for I thought of many things, but what stood out most in my mind was 'MEMORIES.' I am so thankful for the memories I have of my childhood and growing up years, and I am so thankful for the memories I have been able to make since getting married and starting my own little family!! I tend to take the little every day blessings for granted, and often don't even recognize them... but when I look back I am able to see the many blessings I receive each and every day. It is amazing to me how blessed Kevin and I have been the last 5 1/2 years... we couldn't even begin to share all the blessings we have received!!! I went through my pictures file and found MANY pictures just within the last year that I love, and am so thankful for!! I know that for anyone else they are just pictures, but to me they are so much more than that!! They represent the struggles, frustrations, and sacrifices that go along with being a mother... when I look at them I see how my family has grown, not only physically, but spiritually as well. It helps to remind me the importance of my job as a wife and mother, and encourages me to be BETTER!!! I am not perfect, not even close, and I definitely have hard days (my family experienced this with me just yesterday!!!) but as I look back, it helps me to also look forward... to the days ahead, to who I WANT to be, and who I hope my children will grow up to be. I struggle with so many things, but I keep trying... my most important job right now is to be a mother, and for my kids I will never give up. I love them with all of my heart, the good times and the bad. They teach me so much: love, forgiveness, patience, humility, faith... the list goes on and on. I am so thankful for this time of year that helps me to reflect on my life, and to recognize God's hand in my life. Without the knowledge of a living Saviour, who loves us, who knows us better than we know ourselves, who has A PLAN for each one of us, life would be much more difficult!! There are days that I pray, A LOT, just to help me get through the day. I also know that it is through Him, and only Him, that I can learn to be the wife and mother, and person I need to be. All I can do is my best, and so that is what I will keep on doing!!

MONSTER alert...

Andrew is always talking about monsters. Sometimes the monsters are nice, sometimes they are scary, or big, or green... Sometimes they share his toys with him, and they play nicely together. Other times the monsters scare him and chase him around the house. Today there were some 'SCARY' ones lurking in the other room, which just happened to be where Andrew wanted to be. What do you do when there are scary monsters among you? Well, at our house Andrew takes care of that. He ran into the other room and I could hear him yell, "MONSTERS, YOU GO AWAY!!!" I then watched him run up the stairs, chasing the monsters into his bedroom, where he shut the door, trapping them inside. That seemed to have worked... for now.

Those Gosh Darn Cute Kids...

I just feel like I have been running around like crazy trying to keep up with life... which is my kids!! They are great kids, but they are both so very busy (one more than the other, I won't mention any names...), but I love them both so so much!!

I LOVE watching my kids play. I love that they can make each other laugh!!!
Andrew was sick yesterday, I don't know if it was a 24 hour flu bug or what, but thank heavens he seems to be feeling better! I know this because he is back to his busy, loud, and destructive self, which always starts bright and early... usually before the sun ever comes up. He does do and say funny things though, he always keeps life interesting!! His new favorite thing to say is "okay... whadever." It always makes me laugh. He has such a wild imagination, I absolutely love to watch him play and listen to the things he says as he plays. Sometimes a good imagination is not always the best thing!! Andrew often gets scared, and lately at night has been scared of the "pretend sharks" in his room... no matter what we do to get rid of those sharks so he can sleep, they always seem to come back!! I love love LOVE this boy!!

Carrie tries so very hard to keep up with her big brother, and I really wish she weren't doing so well at it!! She has started CLIMBING STAIRS!!! She is only 9 months, isn't that too early to be climbing stairs? I don't know, maybe not, but I was really hoping, wishing, and praying that she would wait until she was at least nineTEEN months.

Carrie in action...

Today I kept hearing this weird noise, and I couldn't figure out what it was, or where it was coming from, because when I would get up and try to listen for it it would stop. Well, I finally discovered that the noise was coming from my little Carrie, and she has started to GRIND her teeth!! She has had 2 teeth on the bottom for quite awhile now, but within the last couple of weeks has gotten 2 on the top. I don't remember Andrew doing this, but maybe he did... but once I realized what it was the sound of it just sent shivers down my back. I couldn't stand it!! Carrie has never been a big fan of the binky, she prefers her thumb, We do have a stash of binkies though, so I have her one to chew on so she would stop grinding her teeth!!! I just find it funny because she really doesn't know what a binky is really for!!

This is how Carrie uses a binky...Wrong way, but she loves it!!!

We had a fun day on Halloween. The highlight of course, especially for Andrew, was going trick-or-treating!!! We headed over to the mall in the afternoon and took the kids, Andrew could not WAIT!! Since we had gone trick-or-treating at Hogle Zoo only a week or so before, he knew what was involved, and the reward, CANDY!!! This boy has such a sweet tooth, I am not sure where he gets it, haha. Carrie just enjoyed and relaxed in the stroller watching all the kids, and probably wondering what in the world was going on!! It was a lot of fun.

Our little Ballerina, and Bob the Builder

9 Months....

Carrie is now 9 months old, and continues to be the cutest baby girl in the whole world!! She babbles a LOT, and I especially love to hear her say "mama". She has 2 more teeth coming in on the top, and she loves showing off her pearly whites. She crawls like crazy, and cruises around on the furniture... she loves to explore the world around her and is getting better and faster at it. She loves to laugh. When she goes to sleep she still sucks her thumb. She is a fun fun girl!!!
Her new favorite thing to do is make a CHEESY smile, it makes me laugh every time.
What a HAPPY girl she is!!!

(My sister used to say that all the time when she was in high school)

We have some great news. Actually its more than great, it is completely and totally FANTASTIC, and we are so excited we wanted to share it with everyone!! Kevin was offered an internship with an accounting firm in Salt Lake City. He has been applying and interviewing with different places over the last couple of months. (Talk about stressful!!) After learning about this particular company and interviewing with them, he felt that this would be a great place to work. As everyone does when interviewing you try not to get your hopes up, so that if it falls through you don't feel as bad. We tried to do this, as we have before, but it is so hard!! Well, luckily this time it worked out. He will be working with them from January to April, and may be able to be hired on after that. This means he will be moving back going into the Master's program until next fall, but well worth it!! We are seriously so excited... when Kevin told me I just kept saying, "Are you serious?" over and over again... and then of course I started to cry!! Kevin, thank you for working so hard and never giving up!! I know that you will do great, and learn a lot. WAY TO GO!!!!

the GREAT Pumpin!!

For our FHE this week we went to the great Pumpkin Walk in North Logan!! Before we moved to Logan we had never experienced anything like the Pumpkin Walk, but since moving here it has become a yearly tradition!! I told Andrew we were going to go see some pumpkins and he was so excited, it was hard to wait until Daddy came home!

This is Andrew with his favorite display behind him, the Incredibles!!
...and as part of the tradition, taking pictures as the different characters they have. Andrew liked doing this, until we got to Yoda, then he absolutely REFUSED!! I had really wanted him to do the Yoda one because we have other pictures of him as Yoda from previous years, and I thought it would be fun to compare them. Oh-well, we got Carrie as a cute Yoda instead. My favorite one was with Clifford because they were both able to be in it!! It was perfect weather, and we had so much fun!
Good-bye Pumpkin Walk, until next year....

Week O' Fun...

We had a busy busy week!! My sister had a conference for work down in Provo, so I stayed at my parents house for a few days and watched her little girl for her. Andrew and Emma had a blast being with one another, they played the ENTIRE time. I couldn't keep up with them! They got along really well, and we were able to do some fun things!! Carrie loved having another child around to play with and crawl after, and Emma sure does love her baby Carrie! And as always, I took a whole bunch of pictures, it was a really fun-filled week!!
A quick art project to keep them busy for a few minutes...

One of the days I took the kids outside to paint pumpkins!!

and what did Carrie do while these two were busy at work painting pumpkins?? She was able to crawl around on the grass and play in the
That night we went to Gardner Village to see the witches...

Another day we decorated some cookies...

Saturday morning it was time to pull out the costumes and go to "Boo at the Zoo," at the Hogle Zoo and go trick-or-treating!!!This Bob the Builder and Silly Clown really are the best of friends!!!

Home Teachin'

"Teach me to walk in the light of his love;
Teach me to pray to my father above;
Teach me to know of the things that are right;
Teach me, teach me to walk in the light."

Kevin was on his way out the door to go Home Teaching, and he asked Andrew if he wanted to go. Andrew answered with a very excited, "YES!!!" Kevin's companion wasn't available, so Andrew filled in. Never too young to be a home teacher!

I looked at the store, and nowhere could I find that they sold plain, microwavable popcorn. They were all salted, and buttered, or flavored somehow. I have been craving my moms caramel popcorn, but I needed to have plain popcorn!! I don't have a popcorn popper, and I didn't really want to buy one, because I probably wouldn't use it very much. I was looking online and I learned that you can use a brown paper bag to pop it in the microwave, and it worked!! SO, this is a very easy, cheap way to pop your popcorn, and it tastes just like it had been air popped!!!

ALL you need is:
1 brown bag lunch sack, and
1/4 c to 1/3 c popcorn kernels (I would use 1/4... it seemed that with more all the kernels didn't pop, at least in our microwave)
1) Place the popcorn kernels in the brown bag.
2) Fold the top of the bag over once or twice. Then make two tears, about 1/4” to 1/2" long, and about 1/2" apart; fold the center 1/2" tab down.
3) Place bag in microwave on your normal setting for about 2-3 minutes. Since microwave wattage varies greatly, from one to another, listen for the sound of the popping kernels to slow down to maybe 2-3 every second or so. It’s best to under cook, or you will have a burning bag mess!
4) Remove bag and serve contents with your favorite seasoning.

AND, if you really want to be cheap, you can REUSE the brown bag... its that simple!!

I took this recipe directly from here. ENJOY!!!

Who is that girl I see...

staring straight, back at me?

While at my parents house Carrie made her way to the front door, and was looking out their glass door. I took this picture, and it wasn't until I looked at it on the computer that I realized you can see her reflection on the door. Maybe she wasn't looking outside afterall, maybe she was watching her reflection!!

This morning my little Andrew wanted to go play outside, and in all reality he more than just wanted to go outside, he NEEDED to. We often stay cooped up here in our small apartment, because it is just easier that way. Andrew is not the easiest person to take out, as he likes to run away from you, he is loud, he screams, he doesn't hold still for one second!! (If you have ever sat by us during Sacrament Meeting you already know this, especially yesterday!!!) SO, we often just stay inside. Today, however, I gave in, and we went out to play. The weather is getting colder, and fast!! That just made it all the more exciting for Andrew, because he got to wear his COAT!! Oh, the simple joys of a child! We went out and it had snowed a little bit during the night. We didn't stay out long, but long enough to get some fresh air, get rid of some wiggles and feel rejuvenated. When we came in we enjoyed some yummy hot chocolate.

Posing with the pumpkins...
Carrie's coat is way too big on her, it is for 12 months, and she is only 8. I thought it would be okay though... I guess that's what happens when you don't try them on before you buy them!! BUT, we did buy it at Kid 2 Kid, so it was cheap... can't complain there!!

Ah... finally got the pumpkins to himself

Just a few of our favorite things...

On Carrie's Fave list: FOOD
This girl really can eat! She has been trying more and more "table foods," and I don't think she has rejected anything she has tried!!!

On Andrew's Fave list: Thomas the Train, and Playdough... put the two together and you have one happy kid!!!

FEEL that fresh air...

We have been loving the change in weather!! It has been so nice to be able to turn the air conditioner off, and open the windows to get a nice breeze... not to mention the relief that gives to our checkbook! I love the crispness in the air in the mornings and evenings. There is just something about it that makes me want to cuddle up on the couch with some hot apple cider, and read a book. I wish the weather would stay like this longer, but I just have the feeling that winter is on its way. We wanted to spend some time up the canyon at least one more time before the weather turns too cold. We had a relaxing evening walking, talking, laughing; it couldn't have been more perfect. We took dinner up with us and ate on the ground on our, as Andrew called it, "pretend table." I was afraid that we had waited too long, and that the leaves would have already fallen from the trees, but they hadn't!! We were able to do some good leaf stomping, and to look at all the different colors. Kevin was able to get off a little bit early, and it felt so good to be able to spend time as a family, and not be rushed. I really think that this is my favorite time of year!!!

Beautiful Brown eyed Girl...

As of earlier this week, our little Carrie is now 8 months old!! We just love her to pieces!!!

Carrie ...
*is Crawling EVERYWHERE
*is Pulling up on anything she can to STAND
*has been Trying new foods, is enjoying finger foods
*is Easy to make LAUGH!
*is Trying to keep up with Andrew
*is Talking (or babbling) all the time
*has been Making more sounds... she made the sound 'mamama' this week, and I was so excited. One step closer to Mommy!!
*LOVES her older brother, he can always get her to laugh!!
*has BIG beautiful eyes
*is Still a happy and content little girl. She eats well, and is sleeping through the night. I really couldn't ask for a better baby!!

Now that Carrie is standing (with support, mind you) this is her new favorite toy!! (I know she doesn't look happy in this picture, but believe me, she is!)...
and she always has little rosy cheeks!

...but I'm not READY!!!

I am in shock right now, I just watched our baby girl do something I am NOT ready for her to do yet!!! She is starting to pull herself up to standing, using furniture. WHAT?!? She is a very skilled crawler now, but somehow I thought (or at least convinced myself) that she wouldn't be doing this for awhile still. Its not the pulling up the makes me crazy, its what follows... the WALKING and getting into everything. It is so fun to watch her, and yet I have this "oh no!!" feeling as I do. I have a hard time keeping up with Andrew, so it just makes me wonder how I can keep up with them both!! I don't know how moms with more than one child do it. I know that my reaction is partly because I want her to stay a baby, and not grow into a toddler... at least, not yet!! It is so fun to watch your kids learn new things and to grow, but why do they have to do it so FAST? They just don't stay babies long enough. That is probably why I feel like I need to take pictures of every little thing my kids do, because they do grow and change so quickly, and I want to remember each cute fun and exciting stage!! I do love that Carrie is so completely proud of herself though, and she gets a huge grin on her face after she stands up. So, since I can't stop time, or slow it down, I will just do my best to enjoy each new stage and the adventure each provides. I love my kids!!!

Standing up at the couch...
Carrie's favorite thing to pull up on is her swing... not the most stable thing to learn on!! We tried getting her to do it on the couch more, but she always goes back to the swing.
What a Silly Girl!

We are LOVIN' it!!!

I have absolutely been loving this fall weather. Since it is no longer hot like it was during the summer, we have been able to spend more time outside. In the words of Andrew... "HURRAY!!!" This has been especially good for Andrew who NEEDS to get out, but it seems to have lifted all of our spirits. Today we headed to Willow Park to enjoy the perfect weather, and let the kids play. Andrew ran around, climbed, went down the slides, and of course... enjoyed the swing!! Carrie enjoyed playing on the grass, and tried a baby swing for the first time. She LOVED it!!!

Here Andrew is climbing one of the many ladders... he has always loved to climb, and unfortunately he is good at it!! (he can climb on the counter now without a stool or anything, and gets in all the cupboards. Drives me crazy!!)

Carrie's first experience on the swing...
she was so relaxed. I thought at one point she was going to go to sleep!

Life is RICH...

Sometimes I feel just so LUCKY. It is more than luck really, I am extremely blessed. I often get caught up in the mundane things of life, and take for granted the many blessings I receive on a DAILY basis. I worry about money, and wonder how we are going to make it through another month full of bills to pay... but each month, we pay the bills. Each month we receive countless blessings. No matter how difficult things get, we continue to pay our tithing, and I know that we will always be taken care of. We may never be rolling in riches, but we will have what we need. Both Kevin and I come from wonderful families who would (and actually have) helped us in many ways. I love knowing that my family can be together FOREVER. I strive each day to be the example my kids need to return home to our Heavenly Father. I always knew that someday I wanted to get married and have a family. I never understood how HARD that would be, but I also didn't realize how REWARDING and FULFILLING it would be either!! Being a mom and wife is a full-time job, but I LOVE it. This gospel really is amazing, and I love that I don't have to be perfect! My children help to remind me that I am a DAUGHTER OF GOD. When my children try my patience I remind myself that they are CHILDREN OF GOD, and I can't help but smile. I am so thankful for my little family!!

These are the cute people I get to see each day and spend the eternities with!!
How could I NOT be happy!?!
