{Happy Birthday, Matthew!}

Our sweet baby boy has turned ONE. Crazy! I can't believe how fast this last year has gone.

We are so lucky to have Matthew in our home, and to be part of our family forever.

What he's up to:
*pulling up and cruising on anything and everything
*plays contently for quite a while on his own
*favorite thing to do is crawl on the floor and swat things around on the floor, then chase them (he can do this for a long time!)
*talking more... he can now say both mama and dada. He also says, baba, lalala
*learning to sign. He will wave if we say "hi", and can sign "eat"
*clicks his tongue
*gets upset when you unbuckle him from the swing in the backyard
*hates grass, touching anything that might be too sticky, and he HATES bubbles in the bath!
*still a very content and happy baby
*still a great sleeper taking 2 naps during the day and sleeping through the night
*his favorite thing to eat is bananas, and can eat them at record speed

...Celebrating early at Grandma and Grandpa Allen's house...
...on his actual birthday...
I got a new camera, and had some fun taking some pictures of the birthday boy!
HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MATTHEW!
WE LOVE YOU!

{Allen Family Vacation 2013: Moab}

About 5 or 6 years ago a tradition was started on the Allen side of the family... each year we have taken a vacation all together with everyone's family. It is something that we all look forward too!!

This year we headed south and visited Moab. While we were there we went on some hikes in Arches National Park. Here are some of the highlights:

{blue skeletons}

Way back in the fall Carrie started soccer. At the first practice the coach had all of the kids sitting in a circle, and asked them for some ideas for the team name. There were a few suggestions... monsters, zombies, skeletons, ect. Carrie raised her hand and said, "butterflies!" After they had a few ideas they voted. When the coach said skeletons several hands went up voting for it. When she said butterflies, Carrie raised her hand again so excited... but she was the only one. :) Skeletons won. So blue skeletons became the team name.

I am so glad that Carrie had the opportunity to play soccer this last year. She may not have been the best player on the team (as she hardly ever went after the ball, but she always ran all over the field with everyone else), but she had a good time. She got a lot of exercise. I mean, a LOT. Carrie was one of the only kids that liked playing even up to the end of the game, so she didn't get nearly as many breaks as the others. But she loved it! The other parents were all very supportive of the team, and would cheer for each of the kids, not just their own. I am thankful for family and friends that support my kids, and show them they care... that's a pretty cool thing.
...this boy was a trooper and went to all the kids games...
...hanging out with daddy during half time...

At Carrie's last game she was given a medal. She was soooo excited about this. When we got in the car after the game she was looking at her medal and said, "I'm a superstar, mom!" She is a superstar, and I couldn't be more happy and proud to be this sweet superstar's mom. :)

{blue lightning}

Andrew's soccer season is officially over. He had such an awesome coach who was always patient with him, and encouraged him to do his best. She genuinely cared about each kid on the team, has a love for soccer, and loved being their coach. She wants the boys that will be playing again next year to request her as a coach, and we plan to do just that! Andrew had some great kids on his team and he made some good friends. They learned to work together as a team, and were undefeated (both fall and spring)!! Most importantly he learned a lot, had fun, got a lot of exercise, and gained more confidence in himself. I looked forward to each of his games... it has been fun watching him improve his skills, and become a better part of the team as he felt more confident with how to play. He has come a long way!
