{instagram: august}

I use instagram a lot more often than I take the time to blog. I like that I can snap a picture, and upload it in a matter of seconds, add a quick thought or explanation and.... memory journaled. It has helped me to capture more of the day to day moments as well. Here are some instagram moments captured throughout the last month.
...Fun at Hyrum Dam...
 ...Carrie drew this for me. She is so full of love and always expressing it. She makes me smile... :)
 ...This boy walks up to me countless times a day and says "hi!!" just as excited as can be...
 ...The cubscouts had a "Raingutter Regatta". I had never been to one, but it was a lot of fun. All of the boys did great! I was impressed that even if they didn't win, and struggled... they kept trying and not one of them gave up. I am thankful for a great group of boys for Andrew to be in scouts with!!...
-Andrew did awesome. He came in 6th place, had a good attitude, and enjoyed trying something new and different. He made his boat with his dad, then painted and drew the picture on the sail himself. His nickname was arrrmatey!-
 ...One weekend we had a mini family vacation. We stayed in Logan and visited some of our old stomping grounds. On the way to Logan we stopped to visit the Hill Aerospace Museum. The kids loved walking around and looking at all of the huge airplanes. Had fun playing with my favorite people!...
 ...While we were on our mini vacation we went to Bear Lake for a day. The weather was cooler and windier than we would have liked, but we did our best to make the  most of it...
 ...Oh my goodness, I love this girl like crazy!!! This was taken after she had been performing songs and dances for me...
 ...I love that I get to hang out with these two boys during the day, while the older kids are at school. Matthew absolutely adores his new baby cousin,. He checks up on him regularly, and chats his little ears off... :)

{school school}

Usually I am more than ready when the start of school rolls around..... this year I was not. I felt like our summer was shorter than usual, and I had a hard time being okay with my kids starting school. They were both excited, however, so that did make it a little bit easier. :)

Andrew is a FOURTH grader now. I can't believe it. He is excited that he got the teacher he wanted (Miss Liptac). She is a happy and energetic person, I have heard great things about her, and I feel like he is going to have another great year! The only thing he was disappointed about, was that his best friend is in another class this year.. but they are happy that they still get to spend recess together.

He took a little bit of a reading break during the summer, but is right back on track reading nonstop. He is just starting the Harry Potter series, and found some minecraft books at school that he thinks are cool. He tested the highest in his class on the math assessment test, only missing one question. Math and reading have always come easy for this boy.. we are excited to see the fun things he will learn about this year!

Carrie is a FIRST grader this year. Saying she has LOVED it is putting it mildly. One of the things she was most excited about being in first grade is that she would be eating lunch at school. On the morning of the first day of school, while I was making lunches for her and Andrew she said "this is starting to get exciiitinnng!!!" She just couldn't hold back her excitement any more! Carrie is such a sweet girl, and is always trying hard to do her best, and to make others happy. She has loved her teacher Mr. Cowan, and she is growing up too fast!

Carrie makes friends easily, and is already talking about some of the new friends in her class. One morning while doing her hair she said, "I wonder if the boys are going to chase us again at recess." It kind of took me back! Boys chasing my girl?! And so it begins....

{swimming lessons}

This summer the kids took 2 sessions of swimming lessons. During that time Carrie moved up from level 1 to level 2, and Andrew moved up from level 3 to level 4. They both LOVE to swim, and are getting better all the time! It is something they look forward to every summer.
The first session Emma took lessons at the same time :)
Andrew got to try the diving boards for the first time, and couldn't get enough, especially the high dive!!

{some say that Heaven is far away, but I feel it close around me as I pray...}

The end of July Kevin's mom passed away. She had been struggling with health problems for a few months prior. It was a difficult time for Kevin and his siblings, but I am so thankful for each of them. It would have been a much harder thing had they not each worked together to make decisions and to talk and check on one another. I feel very blessed to be a part of such an amazing family. Her funeral was a bittersweet day spent with family, celebrating her life. She will be missed here on earth, but never forgotten. She will forever be in our thoughts, and I know she is with us always. Such a sweet soul. Through this experience I have been, and continue to be, grateful for my knowledge of the gospel, the plan of salvation, and knowing that families really truly can be together forever.
 The last several months this sweet woman has been on my mind a lot. I have thought on the memories I have had with her, and the person that she is. She was a quiet person, but people loved her. I never heard her say a bad thing about anyone, and she had one of the biggest hearts of anyone I have ever known. I will always be thankful for her... without her I wouldn't have my Kevin, and I love him more than anything in this world. I

She loved her kids and grandkids more than anything. She loved her "outlaws" as if they were her own, and  she would often say she really had 10 kids, not 5. Pics: hugging her on our wedding day, gma Roni holding Andrew, gma holding Carrie, and holding Matthew.
